Barbara Theresa Crews Dowd, 69, of Callahan stepped peacefully into the presence of her Heavenly Father, while at home on December 31, 2016.

She was born in Jacksonville to Earl J. and the late Pearl Hammontree Crews. She joins her mother who passed 40 days prior.

Barbara returned to school after raising her children. She obtained her high school diploma, Associates in Arts, Bachelors in Education and Masters in Christian Counseling all with high honors. She taught fifth and sixth grades at Sonshine Christian Academy before her retirement. For many years, she taught her “girls” in Sunday school, was Church Secretary and was active in Women’s Ministries.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband and best friend of 52 years Elmer (Moe) Dowd, 2 sons, E. Jeffrey (Monica) Dowd and Robert Bryan (Cindy) Dowd, daughter and ‘bestest’ friend Jennifer A. Dowd, grandchildren, Frank James, Lucy Pearl and Ivy Grace Dowd, brothers Robert (Paula) Crews and Ronnie (Linda) Crews, one sister Lora (Doug) Milligan, aunts Catherine and Betty and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

She has touched the lives of many and all who know her count themselves blessed. She has truly fought a good fight, she has kept the faith and now she has finished her course.

A memorial celebration will be held in the chapel of Nassau Funeral Home on January 4th at 11:00am with Rev. Ken Barney and Rev. R Bryan Dowd officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held later at a private family service.

Barbara is passionate about taking care of orphans and ending sex trafficking. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made on Barbara’s behalf to https://www.irisglobal.org/giving-center , https://www.a21.org/donate.php?linkid=2325 or the charity of your choice.
